The third annual Prosthetists and Orthotists Day, organised by the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthoticts (BAPO), will take place on Thursday 7th September 2023. World Prosthetics & Orthotics Day is a day to raise awareness of prosthetists and orthotist--the tireless workers who offer so much healthcare around the world. In a sense, they help people take control of their movement and change the way that others see them, or in a very concrete manner. Can say it's useful when adapting to changes for patients 'daily lives with use up-to-date technology create an effective prosthesis?
The BAPO was created to promote high quality prosthetic and orthotic work. It strives to raise the standard of prosthetic and orthotic care through continued professional developmxent. Their motto is that only by empowering the professional can one enable the user.
Our clinical specialist Kameron Maxwell frequently travels up and down the length of Britain providing support to clinics, as well as training in how to fit and set up the COVVI Hand. After receiving his undergraduate degree in P&O from NCPO, Kameron graduated with an MSc in Prostheses and Orthotics there last year. Multi-articulated hands has been an area of particular interest for Kameron, and his experience makes him a participant in the development of the next generation.
It was a dream come true, says Kameron. And he wants to explain the reasons why this is such an exciting profession that specifically benefits people with limb loss and limb difference.
Which is to say, when the best result can be achieved for your patient there simply isn't any professional feeling that compares. Later with the increasing availability of advanced multi-articulating devices like the COVVI Hand, it has been such a privilege to be able to bring them this new technology, and see their self-esteem grow as they begin using it.
Both COVVI and Kameron are enthusiastic about the future for UK prostheses. Recently the industry has seen many changes with a lot of excitement from both professionals and users alike. COVVI is excited to play its part in actually bringing change, for those most in need.
